| Honduras is an often overlooked travel destination that shouldn’t be ignored. Honduras is a diverse country with both temperate mountain areas and subtropical beaches. Copan is definitely a must see if you travel to Honduras. The city is the site of ancient Mayan ruins that have survived the ravages of time and remain in almost pristine condition. Ancient carvings, totem poles and other attractions are the main attractions in Copan along with the lovely city of Copan Ruinas. The town offers lodgings and other amenities and is just a short walk away from the Mayan ruins that the town is named after. Honduras is home to several national parks which are a great place to observe the colorful and diverse wildlife of Honduras. One of the most interesting of the national parks is Barbareta, an island that has been reserved as a marine life habitat as well as a parrot reserve. You will see beautiful beaches and coconut groves along the coast and an expansive jungle on the island itself. The island is surrounded by one of the world’s few pristine coral reefs although you are not allowed to snorkel in that area.
