Peru is one of the most exciting cultural centers of the world, and has the honor of housing the ancient Inca capital of Cusco. Cusco is built on beautiful cobblestone streets that are mere minutes away from Incan ruins. The city is full of shops filled with artist’s creations and also offers a selection of clubs and restaurants that are both fun and affordable.

Peru is home to one of the Earths most interesting sites the Nasca Lines of Pampas San Jose. The Nasca Lines are formed by lines that have been carved into the stone by the Nasca people and are thought to represent an astronomical calendar by some. The Nasca Lines are so large that they are best seen by flying over them in a small aircraft which are available year round for viewing the Nasca Lines.

The Nasca people are also credited for building an ancient aqueduct that is found just minutes away from the city of Nasca. The aqueduct is formed in rock and acacia and is still in working order today. Along with the aqueduct and the Nasca Lines Peru is the home to the ancient Nasca pyramids of Cahuachi Ceremonial Center. The pyramids are formed from adobe and feature patios, terraces and rooms that have withstood the test of time.

If you are ready for a city adventure Lima offers all the excitement of city life and culture as well as unique opportunities to enjoy nature. Swimming with sea lions can be enough to impress even the most avid of the nature lovers in your family. You can experience this unique adventure year round although it is a great adventure for those of us who experience dull winter months in North America.

If you are more interesting in the history of Peru you can participate in guided tours of Limas’ churches. Lima is home to the Inquisition Museum, which displays items that were used to torture those who the medieval Catholic Church considered to be witches. You may also visit the Veracruz church where one of the splinters of the crucifixion cross remains on display for those who wish to see it.
